30 Monday Russell and Novey took today off work and Calvin had the day off from his day care. We decided to visit Berkley in the nice new van. It took us about an hour and a half to get there as we had to negotiate traffic over the double-decker Bay Bridge. Our first impression of Berkley was of a grubby city with many layabouts hanging around, but as we got closer to the University the city seemed a lot cleaner. We stopped off at a small farm near the Botanical Gardens where Calvin saw a cow, goat, rabbit, pig. It was awfully smelly and not very well maintained, but I suppose it was a farm after all. We drove back into the central city to have lunch. We decided on a sushi restaurant but both Vern and I had not ordered at all well because we were presented with a platter of raw inch thick fish with some rice. We changed meals with Novey and she had our raw fish, but we really just picked at our meal. We had expected to receive the sushi with the seaweed outer coating. Calvin just ate what was presented to him. After lunch we walked up through Berkley University Campus, back to the car and then on to Mountain View.
