Rangiora – Blenheim

Overcast skies as we left the motel with threat of rain. Continued along highway 72 passing through Ashley, Sefton and Balcairn until we joined SHW 1 at Amberley. Then Waipara, Cheviot, a stop for coffee at Goose Bay and then Kaikoura where we had a break. We drove around the foreshore, took some photos, bought lunch got petrol and continued on the road to Blenheim. Very windy at Kaikoura and warm, but after we got beyond the sheltering effect of the Kaikoura Range the wind increased to full gale and then the rain commenced and continued steadily right in to Blenheim. The wind, however, decreased until by the time we arrived in Blenheim it was calm, but wet. After a bit of cruising around we found the Aorangi Lodge Motel at $95.    Rating 9/10.
