Description: Photomicrograph of a flea taken by Vic Smith using his home built microscope. My father was always interested in optical instruments which included cameras, telescopes and microscopes. Some time in the 1920s or 1930s he constructed for himself a microscope and built up a collection of microscopic specimans which were contained on microscope slides. These slides comprised clear glass 75x25 mm with a thin circular transparent cover enclosing and protecting the speciman. As part of his interest in all things optical he photographed many of his collection of microscope specimans using his quarter plate camera.
